Our Story
Joshua and I met at South Dakota State University (Brookings, SD) in the Spring of 2013. He had just started working in the Department of Animal Science as the Livestock Judging Coach and an instructor of undergraduate courses. At the time, I was a Junior working toward my B.S. in Animal Science with a minor in Business. We began officially dating that summer, when he took me to his home state of Florida to meet his family. We were married in July of 2015.
Following graduation from SDSU, I found myself longing for something that fueled my soul. While I worked with wonderful people, I honestly hated my job. Although it wasn't an option to say goodbye to a regular paycheck, I began pursuing my love of communications.
Our Perspective was born out of a visible need for high quality workmanship in the arena of livestock photography and videography, while still remaining an affordable option for producers. With a love and understanding of graphics, it was only natural that should be a part of the service offering! The business began with less than a handful of clients ... after all, I was working a full-time job in town. While my dream was always to be a stay-at-home mom/work-at-home mom, Joshua and I just couldn't get past the financial insecurity jumping into a business can present.
Three babies and just over 6-years later, I'm working The OP full-time, as well as serving as the Marketing Brand Manager for Umbarger Show Feeds. We've grown from a humble presence in the sale photography, videography and graphic design arena to a definite player in our region. In September of 2020, we added custom brand promotion services to our offering - in an effort to be a full-service shop for our clientele. Our newest venture for this business is into the realm of e-commerce. It's always been a dream of mine to own a store. And so, with some faith and drive Rural Route One is coming to life.
Joshua and I are often going in a thousand different directions, but we wouldn't have our life any other way. Josh works full-time for the American Maine-Anjou Association as the Director of Commercial Development. The Lord has blessed us with three beautiful children - Jesse Vess (7yo), Jedidiah William (4.5yo), and Millie Anne (2.5yo). With our littles, we run a small-scale, registered Simmental and Angus herd. There is never a shortage of things to do, and boy are we grateful God allows us to do each and every thing he's placed on our hearts and so much more.
